Monroe's Boys soccer team produced their best team performance of the season when it really mattered and won their district semi-final against Belleville 6-0 at Custer Stadium on Tuesday night. Monroe will now play in their first district soccer final since 2005 with a chance to win their first title since 2003. 
The Trojans were purposeful from the kick off and dominated the early exchanges. Lucis Rzepa, Austin Dunn and Isaac Langerman set the tone with several aggressive ball winning challenges in midfield that won a lot of early possession that put immediate pressure on the Belleville goal. The breakthrough came when Langerman was released by a nicely weighted pass from Jvon Miller and Langerman lifted his shot over the keeper.Before Belleville could regroup Talen Swinkey had added two quick goals each time calmly placing the ball in the corner of the net out of the keepers reach. Before half time Xander Middleton squeezed home a fourth from tight angle after a Jovanny Gallegos pass.

Monroe began the second half in a more defensive formation and this allowed the visitors the chance to press forward but Braden Setzler pulled off a succession of brilliant saves to preserve the shut out. At the other end Jovanny Gallegos showed a true goal poacher's instincts as he first picked off a back pass and knocked in the fifth before capitalizing on a goalkeeper's error to poke home the sixth goal from close range.Other assists on  the night for Ashton Walker, Lucis Rzepa, Xander Middleton, and Jovanny Gallegos. Great performances by the whole squad but the energy and midfield pressing of Dunn and Rzepa and the defensive work of Daniel Presa, Manuel Diaz and Logan Janes were once again exceptional. 
The fan support definitely lifted the boys and another big crowd on Thursday for the final might carry the team to even greater heights. Go Trojans!
