Monroe Boys soccer wound up their regular season schedule with an exciting 2-1 home win over SEC white divison champions Ypsilanti Community on Monday night. Monroe lined up without captain Talen Swinkey and starting center back Matt Grenn but were able to hold off a much improved Ypsilanti team who had won 11 of their last 12 games. Monroe opened the scoring with a long range shot by Jovanny Gallegos and held the balance of play in the first half. HT 1-0

In the second period Ypsilanti pushed the Trojans back and almost equalized before Logan Brockway extended the Trojan lead with a fierce shot from Bryson Lane's cross. Ypsilanti narrowed the lead with close range effort before Monroe calmly ran out the clock for a narrow but deserved victory. Jovanny Gallegos gave another outstanding performance linking play and winning the ball back countless times. Trevor Mann and  Lucis Rzepa held the back line firm and gave Ethan Merkle a quiet night in goal.

Two other notes from the evening..

The visiting team wore pink to recognize Breast Cancer awareness month and specifically to support Trojan alum and former player Tatum Harm. 

Also at half time Bill and Loretta Swinkey were recognized with a special award fom the Monroe Soccer program to acknowledge their 35 years supporting youth soccer here in Monroe via the MASA soccer programs.
