Monroe 0-1 Skyline

The opening game of the boys HS soccer season was a full blooded encounter between two very talented SEC squads. 

The outcome of the game was decided on the stroke of halftime when Skyline breached Monroe’s defense with a cross pullled back from the byline that was turned in at the far post. It was the only clear chance the Ann Arbor school created in the first half despite having the lion’s share of possession. 

The majority of the game was fought out in midfield where both sides battled tenaciously for control of the game. No quarter was given and some thundering tackles flew in from players on both sides. 

Monroe managed to disrupt the Eagles play in the second half and gradually grew into the game as midfielders J'von Miller and Austin Dunn began to assert their influence. Xander Middleton and Brian Palmer up front worked hard to link up and penetrate the visitors back line but the Skyline defense held firm. 

At the other end Braden Setzler was rarely troubled in goal as Manuel Diaz and Daniel Presa provided a resolute defensive shield. 

It was an impressive start to the season by the Trojans which drew considerable praise from Coach Morgan of Skyline. There were varsity debuts for freshmen Jovanny Gallegos, Brian Palmer, and sophomores Talen Swinkey , Lucis Rzepa , Trevor Mann and junior Nik Heringhausen who all performed admirably against one of the top rated squads in the state.
