Special Message to the Athletes

April 6, 2020

 

Good morning. I hope that you and your families are all doing well in these unusual and difficult times. As you know, last Thursday Governor Whitmer ordered the closing of all schools in Michigan for the remainder of the school year. Following that announcement, on Friday the MHSAA decided to cancel the remainder of the Spring sports season. For the first time since World War II there will be no high school sports in the state of Michigan. Given the circumstances we are living under, it was the correct decision.

First, I want to say sorry to all the seniors on the team. My heart goes out to all of you. Through a situation beyond anyone’s control, you have lost out on your final season as an athlete at Monroe High. I hope that however you felt when you found out there is no season this year, it is softened by the memories of all the previous seasons you spent as a member of this team.

To those of you who are not seniors, now is the time to redouble your efforts to get and stay in shape for whatever your next season is. Use those connections you have made through this team as a support network. Lean on each other and help each other out in these trying times. You have an opportunity hidden within these terrible circumstances to strengthen yourselves physically and to strengthen the bonds of friendship and fellowship between you.

Over the weekend I spoke to Coach Mydloski and to some of your senior leaders. We were all of the same mind in trying to create an opportunity in the future for everyone to get back together. What form that takes and when it might happen all depend on the circumstances we will be living under throughout the summer. Ideally we will be able to come together for a competition of some kind, but if nothing else we may simply have a picnic to enjoy each other’s company once more.

Until then, I leave open the option of providing training suggestions for those who want them. I will continue to send weekly updates of possible workout ideas for those interested. Always remember that during these times safety and health are the most important things. Reach out to each other, stay in touch, stay sane, and stay safe. We will get through this.

Week 2 - 3/16-3/22

Finalforms DUE at NOON Monday 3/16. To be on the roster, you MUST have Finalforms done for Spring 2020 Boys Track and Field. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Here are suggestions of things to do to stay in shape.

Hang on to any cookie money and orders you have already collected. We will collect orders and money when we meet again.

Week 1 - 3/9-3/15

 

Week of 3/9-3/15

3/9 - Practice 2:45-5:00. Meet in upper B-Wing unless otherwise notified. You MUST have a physical on file with the athletic office in order to participate.

3/10 - Practice 2:45-5:00. Weight room 4:00-5:00.

3/11 - Practice 2:45-5:00. Tentative time trials. Parent meeting in the auditorium 6:00-7:00. You MUST have at least one parent/guardian present.

3/12 - Practice 2:45-5:00. Weight room 4:00-5:00. Tentative time trials.

3/13 - ½ day of school. Practice 11:00-1:00. You MUST have a physical and be complete in Finalforms by the end of the weekend to be on the roster!
