Nortel Lanes hosted the Monroe Baker Invitational Saturday. 14 girls teams entered and hoped to take home the championship hardware. The Monroe girls continued their hot bowling of late and found themselves in 2nd position after the 12 games of baker qualifying. In the quaterfinals Monroe faced off vs. conference foe Pinckney. The first game was a close back and forth affair which ended with Monroe ahead by four pins. The 2nd game was a went a little more in Monroe's favor, with the Trojans getting the win to advance in the tournament. In the semi-finals, Monroe ran into a red hot Airport Jets team. Airport jumped out to a nice lead in the first game and cruised to an easy victory. The team stayed positive and kept fighting even when trailing, ending the day with a 195. Airport went on to lose to Melvindale in the championship match, who needed five strikes in a row to narrowly beat the Jets. Monroe's score in the semi-finals was good enough for a third place finish. Another impressive performance by the team. Our matches this week are at Ann Arbor Huron, Wednesday at Revel and Roll, 330pm, and home at Nortel Lanes Thursday at 330pm vs. Ypsilanti.
