The Monroe varsity softball team won its fifth consecutive game Thursday, beating Airport 7-4 in a non-league game.  The Jets started out hot, scoring a run in the first, and 3 in the second.  Monroe chipped away at the lead, scoring one run in the bottom of the second, and two more in the 3rd to cut the lead to 4-3.  In the bottom of the fourth, the Trojans took the lead for good, when Samantha Spicer doubled in Ellie Sieler and Haley Frank to give Monroe a 6-4 lead.  Alexa Amazeen pitched well, giving up 7 hits in 5 innings, pitching scoreless innings in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th innings.  Hannah LaVanway pitched a scoreless final two innings, and the Trojans held on to win 7-4.  Sieler, Spicer, Erica Everson, and Imari Sortor all finished the game with 2 hits, and Monroe had several terrific defensive plays to help earn the win.  Monroe's record is 9-4 on the season.  The team travels to Ann Arbor Pioneer Monday for an important league doubleheader.
