The Monroe varsity softball team improved to 10-2 in league play with a sweep of Bedford on Monday.  The Trojans won the first game 17-5, thanks to an offensive explosion that began in the 3rd inning.  Monroe scored 3 in the 3rd inning and added 4 more runs in the 4th to lead 10-0.  After Bedford scored 2 runs, the Trojans added 3 runs in the 6th and another 4 in the 7th.  All in all, Monroe had 20 hits in the game, and the top of the order (Ellie Sieler, Nicole Sieler, Haley Frank, Samantha Spicer, and Abbie Begley) totaled 18 hits between them.  Spicer led the way with 5 hits and 6 RBI, and Begley added 4 hits.  Nicole Sieler was the winning pitcher.  In game 2, the Trojans fell behind 4-2, and finally broke through for 4 runs in the 5th inning, followed by 5 more in the 7th.  Nicole Sieler picked up 3 hits in the game, while Ellie Sieler, Haley Frank, Samantha Spicer, Erica Everson, and Kayla Peters had 2 apiece.  Frank pitched 4 strong innings in relief of Emma Favreau to become the winning pitcher.  "We have really been hitting the ball well lately, and swung the bats with a lot of confidence today," said Monroe coach Jim Davis.  Monroe's overall record is 15-7.
