Monroe win 8-2 vs. Airport

It was a night of firsts.

• First time playing on the new turf field
• First time playing a varsity game for many players
• First hat trick by two players
• First time for Allie playing goalie in a game

“Passion, play with passion.” That’s what I told them before the game began. This team is made up of a lot of passionate players. I figured that is the way through the nerves. Monroe kept the ball in the Airport end for 90% of the game. We had a lot of good scoring chances. Our strike team partnership of Rowan Stamper (1 goal, 2 assists) and Brooke Trouten (3 goals) combined for a total of 15 shots. I think they looked nervous to start but began to find the game and start getting into the open spaces. Claire Charnock also had a hat trick and was impacting the game with good touches and good long-range shooting. The midfield was strong and hungry to score. Chloe Pabin trying out a new role as a defensive midfielder scored her first varsity goal with her weak foot! Anna Tedora played a core role in winning the ball and keeping Monroe in the Airport territory. Kyleigh Carter, Merin Merkle and Zoe Leach had exceptional games. All were eager to distribute the ball, start new attacks. Carter with quick thinking switched the ball to the weak side a handful of times. Allie Younglove had her first appearance as keeper and made some impressive saves, despite chipping a tooth in warm-ups. Becca Pace had a great game, taking players on one v one on the right side. All the new players got to contribute to the game and feel the pace and speed of soccer at this level. Freshman Lindsey Kleinow not only played, but assisted one of Brooke’s goals. All smiles.

The night was made even further special with the new warm up sets, and long game day coats. Everyone looked sharp. Thank you to the Golden Goal for all your fundraising work and contributions to make this night special.
