On Thursday, the Monroe varsity softball team swept a doubleheader from Ida, winning both games by a 7-5 score. In game 1, the Trojans pounded out 15 hits, but couldn't break the game open until late. Alana Aulph led the way offensively for Monroe, going 4 for 4. Avery Collett added 3 hits, and Natalie Kelley produced a 2-run single and a sacrifice fly. Allie Hall also had 2 hits, and Ally Lewis hit a homer. In game 2, Monroe jumped to a 7-0 lead, but the offense stalled and Ida fought back to tighten the game. Ida's Summer Smith, who had tripled in 3 runs in the first game, hit a grand slam to cut the lead to 7-4, but the Trojans held on. Allile Hall was the winning pitcher, and had 2 hits to help her own cause. Jenna Ruettinger added 2 hits in the game. "Both games were competitive games today, and we did what we needed to do to win both", according to head coach Jim Davis. With the wins, Monroe improves to 12-9 on the season. The Trojans host Dexter on Saturday for a makeup of a eague doubleheader originally scheduled for May 1.
