Monroe Boys JV squad rounded out their season with a spectacular finish to the Wyandotte tournament on Saturday. Needing a win in the final game to become champions, Luis Diaz scored off a deflected cross with barely one second left to get the job done. Wild scenes ensued as the boys celebrated their hard fought victory. Wonderful way to end the season.
Earlier the boys had tied Inter City Baptist 0-0 and beaten Wyandotte 5-2 with a hat trick by Tobin Becker and goals from Cooper Robinson and Colin Gray.
In the final game Cooper Robinson had opened the scoring with a towering header from a perfectly flighted Luis Diaz free kick. Riverview pegged the Trojans back with 5 minutes remaining which set up the dramatic finish.
The tournament win was a fitting conclusion to a very encouraging and successful season for the JV lads on the Monroe team. An abundance of talented players ready to challenge for places on the varsity squad in 2024.
