Boys Varsity Soccer vs. Pioneer HS School

Monroe Boys' soccer recorded their first ever win against traditional state soccer powerhouse Ann Arbor Pioneer on Tuesday night. The historic victory was achieved despite falling behind 2-0 and suffering a torrid first half with injuries to key players Vishwas Joshi and Israel Vargas.
The comeback began when Israel Vargas returned to the fray and provided a cross for Brian Palmer to head goal wards. Edwin Sanchez reacted sharply and nipped in front of the keeper to poke home the goal and get Monroe on the board. With momentum now on their side the Trojans pressed forward and tenacious Logan Brockway won a free kick in midfield.Captain Bryson Lane delivered a perfect ball into the box and fellow captain Jovanny Gallegos evaded the markers to volley home.
With six minutes remaining Aiden Gray released Brian Palmer and the senior forward coolly rounded the keeper to score the winner.
The Trojans survived a furious late onslaught from the hosts to preserve the lead and record the landmark victory. Great performances throughout the team especially Colin Gray, Teegan Simmons, Cooper Robinson, and Bryson Lane in the back and goalkeeper Nathan Sanchez with six saves.
Monroe now 5-1-1 on the season.
