Monroe Boys' varsity soccer staged an impressive rally in the second half against Dexter on Tuesday night but  were unable to overcome their 2-0 first half deficit. The Trojans fell behind early when a powerful long range shot from first team All State player JP Assenmacher gave Ethan Merkle no chance in net. A second goal followed after an uncharacteristic defensive error allowed Dexter to gain a two goal advantage.

In the second half the Trojans regrouped and piled on the pressure. Numerous chances followed, shots by Yuma Watanabe, Vishwas Joshi  and Jovanny Gallegos went close and a free kick by Talen Swinkey was saved by the keeper. The pressure led to a series of corner kicks and one was finally converted when Trevor Mann reacted first in the scramble and fired home from close range. Shortly after another fine cross by Lucis Rzepa was headed narrowly wide by Gallegos. With Monroe committed to finding an equalizer there were gaps in the back and with 5 minutes to go Dexter broke out of the defense and added to their lead. Monroe continued to battle and added a late consolation goal when Swinkey played in Joshi who fired into the far corner.

Commendable fightback in the second half by the team.Overall an excellent performance in terms of ball winning and possession and creating chances but an ultimately disappointing result and a feeling that this was one that got away. 

Great individual performances by Vishwas Joshi, Austin Dunn and especially Matt Grenn at the back.
