Monroe Boys soccer scored an emphatic 5-0 win over old rivals Trenton on Friday night at Bunkelman field.

The Trojans started slowly and struggled to break down the visitors defense for most of the first half. Brian palmer forced a fine save from the Trenton keeper with a sharp shot after 10 minutes The Trojans were forced to regroup after Palmer left the game with an injury.The game looked destined for a goalless first half until Talen Swinkey crashed a free kick against he post and Vishwas Joshi followed up to knock in the rebound shortly before half time.

The Trojans upped the tempo in the second period and added to their total when Swinkey once again found the net with a carefully placed free kick goal. Jovanny Gallegos scored the third from an assist by Joshi before a handball in the box led to a penalty for Monroe. Swinkey made no mistake from the spot. Swinkey completed his hat trick with a drive from outside the box after an assist from Bryson Lane.

It was a much improved performance from Monroe in the second half with determined contributions from Logan Brockway and Evan Ortiz. Lucis Rzepa and Trevor Mann were resolute in the heart of the defense and Austin Dunn played well both in midfield and as an emergency center back.Yuma Watanabe was again full of running and imagination.Freshman twins Colin and Aiden Gray made their varsity debuts and showed a lot of promise.
