Monroe Boys' soccer opened their 2023 season with victory in their home Invitational Tournament. The Trojan squad bested a tough Ypsilanti Community School team 2-0 in the opener with goals from Eric Sanchez and Jovanny Gallegos. Talen Swinkey provided the assists for both goals. Monroe dominated possession throughout the game but were unable to convert several well created chances and add to the total

. In the second game New Boston Huron provided a sterner test. Japanese exchange student Yuma Watanabe opened the scoring before Talen Swinkey added two direct free kicks either side of half time and Brian Palmer converted a penalty late in the second half. It was an excellent start to the season. Strong performances in many positions. Bryson Lane, Trevor Mann, Lucis Rzepa and Matt Grenn held the back line with Swinkey, Gallegos, and Austin Dunn controlling midfield. Watanabe, Palmer and freshman Evan Ortiz started up front. Strong support from the bench from Cooper Robinson, Tobin Becker, Logan Brockway, Vishwas Joshi, and Sanchez. Ethan Merkle was solid in goal all day. Monroe are 2-0-0 on the season.
