Monroe boys' soccer won their first district game in several years with a 1-0 victory over Taylor at Edsel Ford last night. Monroe controlled the game from start to finish but were unable to add to the single goal scored in the first half by German exchange student Phil Baumgarn. The goal came from a well flighted corner to the far post by Logan Amato and Baumgarn headed the ball into the net beyond the Taylor keeper.
Monroe continued to carry the play into the second half and had a goal unfortunately disallowed for offside when J'von Miller followed up Trevor Malik's shot which crashed off the bar from 25 yards. Braden Setzler in goal had a quiet game as the defensive line in front of him was solid and the goal rarely threatened. Good performances from Henry Germeroth, Colin Charnock, Andrey Houck and Norberto Flores. Monroe will now play the winner of Dearborn vs Wyandotte on Tuesday Oct 15 at 5pm (at Edsel Ford) Monroe's record now 11-8-4
