Monroe gave up a last minute goal on a free kick to tie with Trenton on Saturday at Custer field. Monroe began the game playing confidently and dominated the first half. They went ahead after a free kick taken by J’von Miller flew over the defensive wall and into the top corner. The Trojans added to their advantage when the combative Logan Tucker won the ball and passed to Miguel Diaz who scored his sixth goal in as many games.HT 2-0

Trenton were given hope of a comeback early in the second period when the normally solid Monroe  defense had a communication breakdown that led to a breakaway goal. With 20 minutes to go a Trenton free kick was not dealt with by the defense and the ball was scrambled over the line. 2-2. Monroe responded well and continued to control the game with strong performances from Germeroth, Johnson and Amato providing the energy to push the team forward. With 10 minutes remaining Miller found Middleton with a defense splitting pass and Middleton shot the ball under the advancing keeper.It seemed Monroe had done enough to secure victory but another poorly defended free kick in the last minute proved their undoing and Monroe was left to rue many missed chances. An entertaining game and Monroe remain undefeated on the season.
