An entertaining High School soccer match up between defending SEC White division champions Jackson and Monroe ended in a1-1 tie.The game was played in perfect conditions at Mehall Memorial stadium. The contest was even until Mitchell Meier produced a pass to create a goal for Norberto Flores in the middle of the first half. Jackson equalized almost immediately when a ball was played over the top and Monroe’s defense was caught off guard. The remainder of the half was back and forth and Monroe finished the period the stronger team.

In the second half both teams had periods of dominance but no clear cut chances were created by either team. Monroe was forced to hang on for the last 20 minutes when the team was reduced to ten men following a red card dismissal for a mis- timed sliding tackle.  

Monroe’s defense was up to the task and both teams had to settle for the tie. It was an outstanding performance by the Monroe squad and should provide a boost of confidence heading into the upcoming games this weekend.

Excellent performances by the whole team but the  defense deserves special recognition. Matt Timiney Bryan Costello Juan Jimenez Andrey Houck and  Trevor Malik all had very strong games against some talented and dangerous forwards.
