Announcement

I hope that you and your families are all healthy and doing as well as can be expected in these strange and difficult times.  As you all know, last Thursday, Governor Whitmer ordered the closing of all schools in Michigan for the remainder of the school year.  The next day, the MHSAA cancelled the remainder of the spring sports season.  Given the circumstances, it was the correct decision.

First of all, I want to say sorry to all of our seniors on the team.  I am incredibly saddened that you will have lost out on your final season as a member of the MHS track & field team.  I hope that sadness can be softened a bit by the memories you have made throughout previous seasons.

To those of you who are not seniors, this can be the time for you to redouble your efforts to get and stay in shape for whenever your next season is.  Use the connections you have made with friends on the team as a support network during these trying times.  There is a bit of a silver lining in that you have the opportunity to strengthen yourself physically and to strengthen your bonds of friendship with those going through the same circumstances.

I have spoken with Coach Heck and we both agree that we want to create an opportunity in the future for everyone to get back together as a team.  What form that takes and when it might happen will depend on the circumstances we will be living through throughout the summer.  Ideally we will be able to come together for a competition of some kind, but if nothing else, we may simply have a picnic to enjoy each other’s company once more.

Until then, Coach Heck and I will continue to provide training suggestions for runners who want them.  Always keep in mind that safety and health are the most important things.  Reach out to each other, stay in touch, and stay safe.  We will get through this.
