On Monday, the Monroe varsity softball team celebrated Senior Day wth a doubleheader sweep of Ida.  Monday was also Spirit Day, as the 7th and 8th grade softball teams were on hand to check out the games.

In game 1, Monroe got off to a sluggish start, as Ida jumped to a 5-run lead in the 2nd inning.  The Trojans got 3 back in the bottom of the inning, but a 4-run 4th inning gave them the lead for good.  The scoring started when Samantha Spicer singled in Alexa Amazeen.  Ellie Sieler doubled in Alexa Amazeen, and McKenzie Peters followed with a double of her own, driving in Spicer and Sieler.  Amazeen came into the game in relief of Hailey Schink to help the Trojans hold on for a 9-8 win.  Sieler finished the game with 3 hits, while Everson, Peters, and Amazeen had 2 hits apiece.

In game 2, the Trojans dominated from the onset.  Monroe carried a 5-1 lead into the 5th innning, where they erupted for 7 runs to take control of the game.  Once again, Hailey Schink started on the mound, with Alexa Amazeen coming on in relief to close out the game.  Erica Everyson led the Monroe offense with 4 hits, including 2 doubles.  Ellie Sieler added 3 more hits and 3 RBI.  Kayla Peters, Hailey Schink, and Macy Collett added 2 hits apiece.  With the wins, Monroe improves to 26-5 on the season.  The Trojans host Chelsea for a league doubleheader on Wednesday.
