On Thursday, the Monroe varsity softball team defeated Lincoln 4-3 to improve their league record to 15-1.  The Trojans dropped game 2 12-3 to snap a 20-game winning streak.

Though the Trojans managed only 5 hits in the opener, a run-scoring single by Ellie Sieler and an RBI base hit by Erica Everson gave Monroe a 4-2 lead.  Hailey Schink pitched well in the win, supported by strong defense.  Schink allowed just 6 hits and struck out 7 to improve her record to 13-2 on the season.

In game 2, Monroe got out to a fast start, thanks to a 2-run homer by Haley Frank, but Lincoln took control of the game in the 4th inning, and cruised to the win.  Frank and Sieler ended up with 2 hits apiece for the Trojans.  "A 20-game hitting streak is pretty amazing in high school softball", said Monroe coach Jim Davis.  "We have found ways to win several tight games.  Our fatigue started to show yesterday, but this team is capable of playing even better than we have."  Monroe now has a 24-5 record overall.  The Trojans host Ida for a doubleheader Monday at Vince Rossi Field -- game times are 4:00 and 6:00.
