LINCOLN HIGH SCHOOL: 2

Monroe's  boys' soccer team won in unusual fashion on Tuesday night as their SEC league game was played at two different venues on the same night.

The game began on the outdoor turf field  at Lincoln High School and Monroe raced into a 2-0 lead by half time. Goals came from Xander Middleton and an own goal  after a run to the byline and subsequent low cross from Talen Swinkey was turned into his net by a Lincoln defender. The Trojans had begun on the front foot and could have added more goals. A succession of precise corners delivered by Lucis Rzepa had resulted in several heading opportunities that narrowly missed the target.

At half time a dangerous thunderstorm rolled in so the game continued in the brand new $12 million multi purpose indoor facility. The change of venue did  not slow Monroe down and they quickly added two more goals. J'von Miller evaded a couple of challenges and fired home from outside  the box and Xander Middleton intercepted a pass and slotted the ball past the keeper. Miller added another penalty before the end. Swinkey and Langerman assisted on two goals on the night.

Lincoln played some tidy, intricate soccer at times and scored two goals in the second half to cut into Monroe's lead.

Good performances from many players. Seniors Isaac Langerman and Noah Stein played well and juniors Manuel Diaz, Daniel Presa and Nik Heringhausen did well at centerback. Braden Setzler and Heringhausen shared goalkeeping duties.
Final score: Monroe 5-2 Ypsi Lincoln
