DEXTER HIGH SCHOOL: 3
In a lively SEC encounter Monroe Boys soccer team went toe to toe with a robust Dexter side for the full 80 minutes but wound up on the wrong end of a 3-0 scoreline. The first half was evenly contested with few chances for either side. Isaac Langerman forced a good save out of the Dexter keeper and Braden Setzler had to dive full length to keep out a powerful shot at the other end.
The only goal of the half came when Monroe's defense stepped up but the officials deemed the Dexter forward to be onside. Braden Setzler was off his line to block the resulting shot but the rebound fell kindly Dexter's way and the ball was passed into the empty net.
In the second half Monroe enjoyed plenty of possession but were unable to break through against possibly the strongest center back pairing faced this season. Both goals conceded were from set pieces. A corner to the far post and a well placed free kick that glanced off the forwards head and over the advancing keeper. With 20 minutes to go J'von Miller was pushed forward and headed just over from an Austin Dunn cross.
A disappointing night for the Trojans but a very competitive game against an experienced team who had to work hard for their victory. For the Trojans junior Daniel Presa, and sophomores Talen Swinkey and Austin Dunn had excellent games on both sides of the ball.
Final score Dexter 3-0 Monroe
