Monroe Boys soccer season was ended last night with a 2-1 defeat in the district semi final at Edsel Ford.

Monroe dominated possession in the first half but could not convert their superiority into goals and the half ended scoreless. On the stroke of half time Colin Charnock  hit the underside of the  cross bar from a free kick  and there was an appeal that the ball had bounced down over the line but the officials did not award a goal.

In the second half Edsel Ford were the stronger team and Braden Setzler kept Monroe in the game with a number of outstanding saves. Monroe did penetrate the back line on occasion with J'von Miller going close with a shot and Berto Flores just unable to connect with a ball that ran across the face of the goal.

The game went into OT and Xander Middleton had a fine shot which the goalie could only push out for acorner. In the last minute of the first period Edsel Ford broke the deadlock with a shot from close range after two point blank saves by Setzler.

In the second period the Trojans pushed Mitchell Meier forward from defense to bolster the offense. Edsel Ford scored another before Monroe pulled one back through Meier from a nice assist by Colin Charnock. Monroe kept pushing until the final whistle and Caleb Blackwell forced a save from the keeper with the final kick of the game.

Very entertaining and  exciting play off game that could have gone either way. Great season by the Trojans. Well done boys!
