A valiant effort in the pouring rain by the Trojan boys soccer team came up short at Skyline High School on Tuesday night. Monroe defended well in the first half and denied Skyline any clear opportunities. The 1-4-4-1 deep block Monroe established forced the Eagles into long range shots and over hit crosses. The deadlock was finally broken 2 minutes before half time when a long throw in was deflected into the Monroe goal. 

Monroe reverted to 4-4-2 formation to begin the second half and immediately won a free kick. J'von Miller played the ball low across the box and Austin Dunn evaded his marker and smashed the ball home. 

The second half continued in a similar vein to the first half with Skyline having more possession but Monroe's disciplined defending frustrating the home team.The Eagles regained the lead with 12 minutes remaining after a scramble following a corner resulted in a goal.
Monroe were reduced to ten men after a second yellow card shortly afterwards but the team continued to press forward. However the home team scored twice more in the last five minutes of play. A good shot from outside the box and a penalty in the last minute. 
An excellent defensive performance by the Trojans and a slightly harsh scoreline after such a great effort over the entire 80 minutes.
