We just wanted to reach out to you with a couple of items in regards to Monroe High School athletics.
First off, to our parents of 2020 Seniors, we want to congratulate you and your seniors on their graduation. Please know that the Athletic Department wishes the best for our seniors and their future plans. We feel honored to have had the opportunity to work with and watch our senior athletes grow with their sport through their high school career. We hope that many memories and friendships have been made that will last their lifetime. If there is anything needed, please reach out to us.
For our returning students athletes, we look forward to more memory making and exciting times. The immediate future for athletics is a work in progress. We will do our best to keep our students and parents abreast of any news. At this time, no decisions have been made that change our fall season as we know it. However, as noted, discussions at all levels (MI State Government, MHSAA, SEC League, MPS/MHS) are ongoing and ever-changing. Notifications will be sent out if any deviations from our normal schedule/process take place. Please keep an eye on our website; www.monroetrojans.com , our Facebook page; Monroe Trojan Athletics, and our Twitter; mhs_trojans for news and updates.
One change that the MHSAA has announced concerns the requirement for current year physicals for athletic participation. The MHSAA has announced that the physical submitted for athletes for the 19-20 athletic school year will be accepted and carried over for the 20-21 athletic school year:
"For the 2020-21 school year the MHSAA pre-participation sports physical requirement will be waived for students in any grade who received a valid physical for sports during the 2019-20 school year (one completed on or after April 15, 2019). These students and their parents/guardians will be required to complete the two-page MHSAA SPORTS HEALTH QUESTIONNAIRE." (MHSAA)
This means, if you submitted a physical for your student athlete this school year, you will not be required to obtain a new physical for this coming school year. This change is in consideration of the COVID19 restrictions making physician visits difficult for our families. The MHSAA Sports Health Questionnaire will be available and a requirement in our Final Forms Registration Program. You will see the addition of that form when registration is open for the fall.
We hope our families stay safe and healthy. Please reach out with any questions or needs.
